AfWPI Annual Recognition Gala

Congratulations to our team which won Sacramento Association for Wedding Professionals International's 2nd Place "Mixer Team of the Year" for the Boo Bash, which was a real thriller with ghoulish grits concocted by Beth Sogaard Catering, death by chocolate created by Capital Confections, smokin’ libations brewed by A Perfect Pour, goth brides clothed by Enchanted Bridal Shoppe and prepped by Dexe Thao & Beela Shaikh, chanted incantations led by JD Productions Quality DJ Entertainment, and an eerie and ghostly atmosphere created by Creative Memories Entertainment at the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria! JD Presents Rebecca Johnson with AfWPI's Volunteer-of-the-Year Award!

okay. So, I was totally stoked when I got the 4-1-1 about the gnarly
opportunity to present AfWPI’s 2014 volunteer-of-the-year award at "Back
To The 80s Prom Night" recognition gala.The volunteer of the year is, like, the person who, ya know, is totally awesome as far as standing out above the rest in donating the most time to programs and, like, ya know, events during the previous year.
This volunteer is major righteous! And in donating time, just like, really made things primo radical!
Always willing to jump in and, like, lend a hand, this person: agreed to co-chair the Conference Committee just weeks before it was held, helped with last year’s Gala, assisted with several Facebook posts and events, and helped set up the Christmas Party.
Three times when helping out, this person wasn't even acknowledged publicly, which is bogus and totally lame. Still, that didn't stop her continued support. She’s completely dedicated to AfWPI.

Fun Wedding Game - Who Are You?
Fun wedding where the couple had us conduct a game to see how well the bride knows the groom. We played "Who Are You" by The Who as the men sat in chairs while the blindfolded bride felt their hair and facial features, trying to pick which man was the groom. She narrowed it down to two men, ultimately selecting her husband. But just before the reveal, the two of them switched places leading to some big laughs for all. ;)
Good Isn't Good Enough - You Deserve GREAT!
The Sacramento Chapter of the American Disc Jockey Association (ADJA) just held a bride's panel where recently married brides/couples shared their experiences with musical entertainment for their weddings. One couple told about a "bargain DJ" that they thought did a "good job." We don't think "good" is good enough. Here's why:
The DJ didn't return their phone calls promptly, but he eventually got in touch with them. He didn't provide them with planning forms in advance of meeting to detail out their wedding. Instead, he just brought a blank pad on which he took notes. He showed up late on their wedding day -- as the officiant was asking for a pre-ceremony sound-check, the groom literally had a cell phone in each hand calling the DJ's numbers trying to track him down. The DJ finally arrived and set up, so they said "things worked out."
The couple was pleased the DJ was able to do an "on-the-fly edit" of a song for their grand entrance which was really important to the bride, who had been picturing their entrance for weeks and was worried whether the song could be edited -- of course, her worries could have been alleviated if he had stayed in touch with them. The DJ cued the song so the right lyrics played when the couple entered, but he mispronounced their names, which really bothered the groom because it made it seem to their guests like the DJ didn't even know them -- "but he only did it two or three times that night."
Still, according to this couple, "he did a good job."

JD the DJ to DJ/Emcee AfWPI's Holiday Party
JD Firestone (JD the DJ) has been selected to provide the musical entertainment and emcee the Association for Wedding Professionals, International (AfWPI) Holiday Party on Sunday December 5, 2010. The event, dubbed a "Ho...Ho... Hoe Down for the Holidays," will be a fun-filled, downhome country celebration for vendors in the special event and entertainment industry, their friends, and families. It will be held in the Sky Room at the Country Club Event Center, Sacramento and will feature dinner, dancing, laser tag, bowling, and even a visit from Santa!
JD the DJ Emcees National Mobile Beat Tour
Galt, CA - On August 25, 2010, JD Firestone (JD the DJ) of JD Productions Quality DJ Entertainment was privileged to emcee the National Mobile Beat Tour as it made a tour stop at A Magical Place Entertainment & Party Center. The event, which was hosted by the Sacramento Chapter of the American Disc Jockey Association (ADJA), was attended by disc jockeys from as far away as Porterville, CA and Reno, NV. JD, who currently serves as secretary of ADJA's Sacramento chapter, told attendees about recent chapter activities including an improv workshop, a wedding marketing seminar, a SEO session, and round table topics. Tour speakers included Jason Spencer of Spencer's Wedding & Entertainment, who spoke on Building Powerful Customer Relationships and Ben Stowe of Northern Light FX, who discussed how to Take Control of Your Lighting. Attendees then perused the latest gear from Pioneer DJ, American DJ, Hercules, Odyssey & more! The tour was brought to the area by Mobile Beat Magazine which is an industry publication dedicated to the specialized interests of working mobile entertainers.
